DevOps Engineer

The operating model of our activities consists in injecting small development teams inside large IT projects with the purpose to enable and contribute to the creation of best-of-breed software systems and architectures as envisaged by business requirements and technological strategies. The development activities are managed by "Agile" processes and require the participation of all project participants along all the phases of planning, implementing, and validating the assigned activities.

The Job for the role of DevOps Engineer

The role of DevOps Engineer guarantees the correct execution of all activities related to the management of the "Software Life Cycle" applied to applications that perform Back-end or Front-end functions (Web and Mobile).

In the day-by-day execution of his/her activities, the candidate will interface with the Scrum Master (planning function), Architects (Software and Hardware), Security Engineers, Software Developers, and Test and Quality Assurance groups. The responsibility of the DevOps team is to create (and/or configure) the processing infrastructures, based on what has been designed by the Architects. The set-up of the infrastructure, as it is required to process the new applications, should also consider an appropriate segregation of responsibilities (Development, Acceptance and User Testing, Production).

At the completion of the project phases, DevOps is responsible for organizing the day-by-day operational activities, including the monitoring of relevant processes such as the software deployment, operation scheduling, performance management, with the aim of ensuring the quality of the final results. The candidate must be able to anticipate, detect and solve (or mitigate) any typical problem of the agile development environment, suggesting new technical solutions and/or improvements.

From a technical point of view, since most of our customers' applications are installed on Cloud services, DevOps activities should consider that the processing environment is built around the "Software Defined Hardware" (SDH) paradigm.

The Software Life Cycle management activities are realised through the creation and management of "Pipelines" which deal with the fulfillment of the relevant operational processes like code acceptance and management, continuous integration, automation of software deployment, configuration of cloud services, and monitoring of the overall system.

The coordination of the project takes place through daily meetings involving all the organizations that contribute to the execution of the project. Since the different teams reside in different geographies, the meetings are held in English; the same is true for all asynchronous communications (messaging) and the drafting of the technical documentation.

The required skills

The ideal candidate has a good knowledge (appropriate to the placement level) of the following software development and project management technologies:

  • Knowledge, features and options of the main Cloud platforms (with focus on AWS and Google Cloud Services).
  • Knowledge of Cloud Services configuration services.
  • Experience with cloud application configuration and orchestration software (such as Dockers and Kubernetes).
  • Systems for the management of Continuous Deployment and Continuous integration (such as Jenkins and Git/Github).
  • Experience in using systems for monitoring and debugging Cloud services.
  • Knowledge of functional specification and non-compliance ticket management systems, such as Atlassian Jira/Confluence.
  • In addition to familiarity with the Italian language, a good knowledge of the English language (with the ability to communicate and understand/write documentation) and a strong propensity for teamwork are essential.
